The number of business representatives going to the WEF increased by 18%

Experts from the Aeroclub company, the leader of the business tourism market and a leading provider of IT solutions for the industry, analyzed the bookings of business representatives traveling to the Eastern Economic Forum and found out which industries the most significant delegations gathered, which hotels the delegates prefer, and how the demand for air tickets has changed.

According to the study, the demand for business trips to Vladivostok during the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) increased by 18% compared to last year. Employees of financial and consulting companies showed the greatest interest in the forum – the number of their bookings increased by 173% compared to 2023. At the same time, the share of bookings made by representatives of this industry has increased from 23% in 2023 to 42% this year. Representatives of the oil and gas industry and energy came in second place in terms of the number of delegates – the number of their business trips to Vladivostok during the forum increased by 169% compared to last year, and their share amounted to 11% (5% in 2023). Retail representatives took the third place in terms of the number of delegations at the forum – compared to last year, the demand for business trips to the WEF in this industry increased by 44%, and the share increased by 1% and amounted to 7%.

Experts noted a 71% increase in demand for business class flights. Thus, a quarter of the delegates get to the WEF in an increased comfort class. The average cost of a business class has risen in price by only 8% compared to last year and amounted to 264 thousand rubles for a one-way flight. Economy class rose in price by a third and on average cost delegates 43 thousand rubles for a one-way flight.

“Every year we see how not only the demand for the Eastern Economic Forum is growing, but also the status of its participants. And this is not surprising, because the WEF has become one of the key platforms for business and government dialogue, revealing the potential of the Russian Far East and building trade and economic ties with the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. The business flow to the Asia-Pacific countries, which has grown due to the strengthening of ties and the integration of Russian business into the Asia–Pacific community, demonstrates high dynamics – by the end of 2023, growth amounted to 470%, and in the first half of 2024 148%,” shared Denis Matyukhin, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of GC Aero Club.

The largest number of delegates will go to the forum from Moscow (67% share), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (5%), Khabarovsk (4%), Krasnoyarsk (4%), Blagoveshchensk (4%), Novosibirsk (4%), St. Petersburg (3%), Irkutsk (3%), Nizhny Novgorod (2%) and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (1%). Foreign delegations mainly consist of business representatives from China.

The average length of stay of business tourists in Vladivostok during the forum, as well as a year earlier, was 3 days. Most of the delegates – 35% – chose accommodation in non-classified accommodation facilities, which include apartments and apartments. Their average cost increased by 251% over the year and amounted to 23 thousand rubles per night. Five-star hotels accounted for 32% of all bookings. Their average cost increased by 99% and amounted to 320 thousand rubles per night. Four- and three-star hotels accounted for 16% and 14% of the nights, respectively. The average cost of four-star hotels increased by 9%, and a room in this category cost business tourists 66 thousand rubles. Three-star hotels cost an average of 19 thousand rubles per night, which is 64% more expensive than a year earlier.

Aeroflot remains the most popular airline among business travelers – the share of flights on flights of the national carrier was 83% (78% in 2023). The demand for S7 flights decreased by 14%, and the share of bookings was 10% (14% in 2023). IrAero entered the top 3 most in-demand airlines among business travelers, its share was 4% (1% in 2023).
