1. The Old Town
The medieval atmosphere of the stone winding streets of the Old Town
Few sights of Montenegro can boast as rich and long-lasting history as the “heart” of the Montenegrin city. You will be transported into the world of Mediterranean and Venetian architecture. In the old days, the Old Town was located on an island, but later it was connected to the mainland, turning into a sandy peninsula. While exploring this landmark of Budva, you can enjoy the view of charming old buildings with red tiled roofs. And also visit the numerous museums and temples surrounded by thick fortress walls of Stari grad.

The former fortress of St. Mary, and the main monument of the city’s history. You will be able to take wonderful photos against the background of dilapidated walls, thanks to which this trip will be remembered for many years. What to visit in Budva if you are hungry? Also the citadel: here you can order a delicious lunch or a hearty dinner in its restaurant, and eat the dishes right at the table on top of the cliff.

3. Sculpture “The Dancer from Budva”
Sculpture of a dancing girl in a graceful pose against the background of Old Budva Sergey Narukov
An elegant and beautiful sculpture depicting a gymnast. We included her in our rating, among other things, because the locals assure us: touch a girl and make a wish, and it will definitely come true. This landmark of Budva has another purpose – it symbolizes love.
4. Mogren Beach
Mogren beach in a picturesque bay with clear and transparent water
Our list of what you should definitely visit in Budva would be incomplete without the famous Montenegrin beach. In fact, we are talking about two separate small beaches at once, covered with sand and small pebbles (the territory is separated by a picturesque cliff). The passage to the second beach (Mogren 2) is accessible through a through cave. Inside the cave there are beautiful wooden bridges, on which every tourist considers it his duty to take a picture.
5. Budva Water Park
Water activities for children at the Budva Water Park
Not so long ago, numerous excursions in Budva were replenished with a new tourist attraction – an aquapark located on top of Toplish Mountain. On the territory of more than 41.5 thousand “squares” there is a free parking lot, a photo studio, a souvenir shop, a cafe for children, bars for adults, a huge restaurant with panoramic windows through which you can watch the city and the Riviera, and most importantly – more than 50 attractions for children of all ages, swimming pools, water slides of various the difficulty level. 6. Budva City Museum
Exhibits of the Budva Sailko City Museum
Don’t know what to see in Budva, and are you interested in history? Come to this four-storey museum and you will see collections spanning from the 5th century BC to the present century. Many of the exhibits belong to the Byzantine, Roman and even later eras. There are artifacts from the Hellenistic period, funerary urns made of glass, stone slabs depicting ancient writing – the number and type of exhibitions can pleasantly surprise even the discerning connoisseur of cultural values and traditions.
7. Library of Budva
The library of Budva is located in the Old part of the city in the Nick Savchenko Citadel
Located in the historical center of the city, the building houses over 60 thousand printed publications – this is one of the richest collections of books in the whole country. Speaking of interesting places in Budva, this library could be put at the top of the list: it is located in a ruined fortress and resembles a magical palace. Instead of the traditional library interior, luxurious ruby leather armchairs, chic desks and glazed cabinets with antique volumes are waiting for you inside.
8. St. John the Baptist Cathedral
The spire of the tower of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is visible from any part of the city
The majestic building with a vaulted roof, as well as many other best sights of Budva, is made in the Gothic style. Its tall bell tower can be seen literally from every corner of the city. In previous years, this temple complex served as the bishop’s residence. The rich interior of the medieval cathedral is complemented by an ascetic facade. You can see here: a valuable library with extremely rare documents, manuscripts and printed publications, paintings from the 16th-17th century, the figure of John the Baptist, made in mosaic technique from Murano glass.
9. The Church of the Holy Trinity
The facade of the Church of the Holy Trinity is lined with stones in rows of white and red
A relatively young temple, built in the early 19th century. Telling Russians about the main sights of Budva briefly, local guides always mention this cathedral, because one of the mosaics at the entrance is made in the form of a reproduction of a painting by A. Rublev. Note that in this case, a rather modest facade with stones and a large dome is “compensated” by a rich interior.
10. The Monastery of Podmaine
The monastery complex Podmaine or Podostrog on the northern outskirts of Budva
A stone temple, in the history of which there were both heroic moments and tragic events. The Orthodox building has been attacked and robbed more than once. The exact year of foundation is unknown. In 1995, restoration work began. Now the monastery is an active monastery of male monks. In addition, cultural and religious events are regularly held here.
We have told only about a small part of the city’s attractions. If you have free time after visiting them, pay a visit to other interesting places.
Sights of Budva: what else to visit in Budva

The Austrian building of the XIX century – the fortress of Kosmach
A powerful building from the time of the 1st World War. If you don’t know what to see in Budva in 1 day, come here. You can enjoy a panoramic bird’s-eye view of the city and its surroundings. You can climb to the fortress by buying a ticket for the cable car.
12. Mogren Fortress
Ruins of a defensive fortification to protect Budva
The building has been preserved only partially, some architectural elements still have an abandoned and ruined appearance. The complex is located near the beach of the same name. You can get to it by walking through the forest. Unfortunately, there are no guided tours to the ancient landmark. Therefore, you need to get acquainted and get to it on your own. However, travelers’ reviews suggest that such efforts more than pay off with impressions.
13. Top Hill Club
Top Hill is one of the largest discos in Montenegro Daisy Hynes
At one o’clock in the morning, all night clubs in the city close, in addition to this huge entertainment venue. The pompous club bar is located on the top of the mountain. The giant dance floor is located right in the open air. Several times a week, the most famous artists of the country and famous world DJs certainly give performances at Top Hill. 14. St. Nicholas Island
View of the small uninhabited island of St. Nicholas Bratislava
The island of St. Nicholas is located opposite Budva in the Budvinsky Bay (the sections are connected by a sandy embankment). Locals call this island Hawaii. The fact is that its beaches are as beautiful and well-maintained as the beaches on the Pacific Islands. During the tourist season, you can get to the island by boat. The duration of a pleasant walk on the water will be no more than 5 minutes. Admission to the island is free at any time of the year.
15. Sveti Stefan Resort
The beach of beautiful pink sand in the resort of Sveti Stefan
The entrance to the resort (the whole island) is only available to residents of the Aman Sveti Stefan Hotel. However, you can also get here if you reserve a table in the restaurant in advance. We have drawn your attention to this resort because it is the most luxurious and expensive in all of Montenegro. In previous years, there was an ordinary fishing village here. Today it is a tourist paradise with Mediterranean restaurants, nature parks, museums, a large water park and clubs. It is believed that each Sveti Stefan building is an architectural monument of history characteristic of a particular era.
We hope that our review of the sights of Budva, photos with names and descriptions, will allow you to spend time in this hospitable city brightly, fun and exciting.
