MTS Travel travel service analyzed where Russians will go on vacation in the summer and where they will be able to find the most affordable housing. Krasnodar is currently the most budget destination for a summer vacation, and St. Petersburg is the leader in the number of early bookings.

According to MTS Travel, the average open price for hotels and other accommodation facilities in Russia in the summer is currently 6,600 rubles per night. Of the most popular tourist cities, so far it is most profitable to stay in Krasnodar in the summer — the average cost of accommodation per night there is 4,300 rubles. Volgograd is in second place in budget destinations — tourists will have to pay an average of 4,500 rubles per day there. Arkhangelsk closes the top three budget destinations — the average cost of a hotel stay in summer in this city is 4,700 per night.
Staying in Krasnodar, it will be convenient for tourists to explore the region and go on short trips with sightseeing of local attractions, Volgograd will be attractive to travelers with its museums and architecture, and on a trip to Arkhangelsk you can get to the Solovetsky Islands — motor ships run from the city to the archipelago in the summer, and planes fly all year round.
If we talk about beach destinations, the most budget hotels can be found in Samara, where beach holidays on the Volga are gaining popularity — an average of 4,900 rubles per night. Next in value is housing in the villages of Lazarevskoye in Sochi (5,800 rubles per night) and Vityazevo near Anapa (6,900 rubles per night).
According to MTS Travel, the early demand for tourist accommodation in the country in the summer increased by 36% year-on-year as of mid-April. The top three in terms of the number of early bookings traditionally included St. Petersburg, Sochi and Moscow. The share of St. Petersburg is 11%, Sochi and Moscow – 9% and 5% of all bookings in the country, respectively.
Independent tourists book accommodation in the summer months for an average of 4 nights. The longest travelers are going to rest in Anapa and Gelendzhik — the average duration of booking in these resort cities was 8 and 7 nights, respectively. At the same time, the shortest average duration of booking in summer was noted in Gorno-Altaisk — tourists booked accommodation there for an average of 2 nights. This may be due to the fact that the city is the starting point for a trip to Altai — tourists often arrive at the airport of Gorno-Altaisk, and then go on their own or with a tourist group to see the objects of tourist attraction in other locations.
