An emergency occurred near the Chaika campsite in the Krasnoglinsky district of the Samara region on Saturday. The Valdai hydrofoil vessel with 45 tourists on board collided with a motorboat. According to eyewitnesses, the boat followed a parallel course for some time, and then stalled. At the same time, it stopped right in the path of the Valdai. The captain tried to slow down, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
After the impact, the ship began to smoke, the passengers were quickly evacuated. The motorboat, of course, suffered more seriously. In particular, five people, three men and two women, were injured – all those who were in the boat. According to some reports, one passenger’s spine was damaged, the guy’s hip was broken, the rest were taken to the hospital with traumatic brain injuries.
Investigators will have to find out the causes of the collision, representatives of the Central Interregional Investigation Department for Transport (Central MSUT) of the Russian Federation on transport said. In turn, the prosecutors took control of the case: “The Kuibyshev Transport Prosecutor’s Office is checking compliance with the requirements of legislation on navigation safety, if there are grounds, it will take measures of prosecutorial response.”
