We have heard more than once that planes collide with birds. But few people tell how much such emergencies cost airlines. It turned out that such incidents are quite expensive.
Rossiya Airlines “evaluated” a duck that got into the engine of a Superjet-100 95M aircraft in April 2023. Then the flight took off from Tobolsk airport and was heading to St. Petersburg, but returned shortly after takeoff. The press service of the Ural Transport Prosecutor’s Office reported at the time that the cause was a bird getting into the engine.
The ministry also noted that the landing was successful, there were 73 passengers on board, including 5 children and 5 crew members, and the plane was suspended from flights.
Almost a year later, this story was continued — while the board is still idle in the hangar, the airline has calculated the damage and now demands 40 million rubles from Tobolsk airport, and at the same time insists that it be checked by the Rostransnadzor commission.
In the proceedings, among others, there is the question of the duck’s “place of residence” — whether she lived at the airport on a permanent basis or was a migrant. If the bird was local, it follows that the air harbor of the Siberian city did not cope well with scaring off birds, and this, by the way, is an important duty of any airport. At the moment, a forensic examination is underway, on the basis of which the court will make a decision.
How does the work of aviation ornithologists work, Vokrugsveta.ru I told you here.
