Navigators only talk about the Nemo point. And how to get to it. This place is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, south of Easter Island. This conditional mark on the map is as far away from any land as possible, for which it is affectionately called the point of maximum loneliness. British entrepreneur Chris Brown is now going to experience this loneliness for himself. And if he succeeds, he will become the first representative of his country to make an expedition to Nemo point.
To get to his cherished destination, Chris Brown first thought of using a racing yacht, but then he still preferred a safer and more reliable option — the Hanse Explorer expedition yacht. In it, he and his 32-year-old son Mika set off from Puerto Montt in Chile towards Nemo Point.
The nearest land from the “point of total loneliness” is 2,700 kilometers away. But such remoteness does not frighten the entrepreneur. He has previously reached five of the eight continental poles of the Earth’s inaccessibility and believes that a new journey will be no more dangerous than his expeditions to Africa or Antarctica. The only thing he fears is that he will be thousands of kilometers from land and from any shipping route. Therefore, if there are problems with the yacht, help will not come soon.
Chris Brown is no stranger to embarking on the most desperate journeys. He was one of those who bought a ticket for the Titan bathyscaphe, which sank at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Brown refused to participate in that expedition at the last moment — after he learned that the submarine would be controlled using a game console.
Brown’s expedition is not just a journey for the sake of travel, the researcher intends to collect water samples on site to check the amount of microplastics thousands of kilometers from the nearest human settlements.
Point Nemo, by the way, is a dump. However, the garbage here is mostly space, these are the remains of submerged spacecraft at various times, including the Russian Mir station. But there are also quite earthly wastes, they are brought here by numerous currents.
How Fyodor Konyukhov once got stuck at Nemo point, we told you here.
