Туристов во Франции предупредили о новой эпидемии: уже 600 заболевших вирусом, имеющим 25% летальности

Tropical heat in Europe leads to tropical problems. Tourists in France have been warned about a new epidemic: 600 people have already fallen ill with the virus, which has a 25% mortality rate — local health authorities have announced so many cases of dengue fever. It is “imported” or the mosquitoes that carry the disease have managed to acclimatize in France, so far it is being found out.

According to the French press, most people with dengue recover without any permanent problems. The risk of death among people with severe dengue fever ranges from 0.8 to 2.5%, and with adequate treatment – less than 1%. However, for those with significantly reduced blood pressure, the mortality rate can reach 26%. Also, at the moment, the French Health Service announced that almost 20% of the more than 2,800 cases over the past time were imported from Guadeloupe or Martinique.

On the other hand, climate change is creating favorable conditions for the spread of the tiger mosquito, said the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). “Europe is already seeing how climate change is creating more favorable conditions for the spread of invasive mosquitoes to previously unaffected areas and infecting more people with diseases such as dengue. Increasing international travel from dengue-endemic countries will also increase the risk of imported cases and inevitably also the risk of local outbreaks,” added Andrea Ammo, head of the center. In some places in Spain, for example, mosquitoes have already “acclimatized”.

The head of the center advised tourists to take “personal protective measures”. And she added that “early detection of cases, timely surveillance, further research and awareness-raising activities are of paramount importance in those regions of Europe that are most at risk.”

It is also clarified that dengue is endemic in more than 100 countries. worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). But these are mostly tropics: more than six million cases and 7,000 deaths are reported annually, with cases more common in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
