Recently it became known that the State Duma adopted in the final reading a law that introduces a tourist tax in Of Russia. It is reported that the fee will depend on the cost of living and will be indexed gradually by one percent until 2029, after which the rate will be fixed. By 2029, Russians will have to pay an additional five percent for hotel accommodation.
Yuri Barzykin, Vice-president of the Russian Union of Tourism Industry (PCT), said on Komsomolskaya Pravda Radio that in monetary terms these are already tangible amounts.
“In fact, of course, business is absolutely not happy about this kind of innovation. Yes, this is plus one percent per year (to the cost) for accommodation, but by 2029 it is five percent from each. If, as a rule, a room for two costs 4.2−5 thousand rubles with breakfast, then 500 rubles additionally and daily (you will have to pay extra). This is absolutely unacceptable for consumers,” the expert said.
Barzykin believes that the tourist tax will become an additional problem for businesses, as vacationers will try to save on the new fee.
“He (the tourist), of course, will now try to stay in apartments and apartments that do not fall under the scope of this law,” he concluded.
Earlier, Vice-president of the Alliance of Travel Agencies Aleksan Mkrtchyan named tourist destinations worth 200 thousand rubles for two.
