In 2023, police officers took about 1,650 destructive passengers from airplanes, which is 14 percent more than a year ago, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Izvestia writes. During the year, airlines refused to transport more than 2,000 people – the number of such travelers increased by 11 percent. At the same time, about 2,000 people were brought to administrative responsibility, and 62 passengers were criminally responsible.
Most often, several protocols were drawn up for one violator at once. 7800 administrative protocols were issued for minor hooliganism at airports and on board, 6800 – for being intoxicated in a public place, 690 – for smoking on airplanes, 319 — for not following the lawful orders of the aircraft commander. At the same time, most of the violations of the order occurred against the background of alcohol poisoning – about 60 percent of the air traffic controllers were drunk.
The problem of violent passengers is very acute, as such fellow travelers not only violate order, but often threaten flight safety. Airlines say that creating a “blacklist” is not particularly effective: such registries exist only in individual airlines. Air carriers propose to resolve the issue at the legislative level by tightening the rules and increasing fines. The State Duma has already begun work on the relevant draft law.
