Since June 1, Georgia has introduced compulsory medical insurance for foreigners

From June 1, 2024 in Updated rules for foreign tourists have entered into force in Georgia.

According to MK, medical insurance can be issued in Russian, English or Georgian. This facilitates the process of registration and understanding of insurance conditions for tourists from different countries, including Russia.

The new rule applies to all foreign travelers, including Russian citizens. The Government of Georgia has established minimum requirements for the amount of insurance coverage: at least 5 thousand dollars or euros for emergency outpatient services and from 30 thousand dollars or euros for inpatient treatment. Tourists who “forgot” to take out insurance face a fine of 300 lari, which is about 10.2 thousand rubles. If the fine is not paid within a month, the amount will increase threefold.

As previously reported by the Free Press, according to Sergey Romashkin, ATOR Vice President for Domestic Tourism, General Director of the Dolphin tour operator, the average cost of a summer tour in Sochi reaches 105 thousand rubles, while Anapa may be even more expensive — in the region of 109 thousand.
