The number of cases of seizure of foreign passports from Russian citizens on departure from the country has increased recently. This is due to mistakes made in the documents, said Dmitry Gorin, Vice President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry.
“The number of passport seizures and questions being asked at the border has increased, especially in May and June. In the last decade of May, we saw that the total number of requests only among organized tourists began to increase sharply. There were more than 120 such requests through travel agents to tour operators,” RBC reports.
As a rule, in most cases, errors are associated with incorrect spelling of personal data, as well as typos in the names of cities and errors in dates of birth. First of all, defects are found in old-style passports that do not have biometrics.
An increase in cases of seizure of passports at the border was reported at the beginning of the year. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs denied this information. However, by the beginning of the holiday season, the situation had escalated.
Earlier, Vice-President of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia Artur Muradyan also reported an increase in the number of passport seizures at the border. He clarified that at first there was a wave of errors, where the gender was mixed up in the documents.
