The hotel staff has revealed their dirty little secrets about the condition of the guest rooms and why you should always double-check the bed linen before going to bed. An anonymous employee on the Reddit forum reported that both the toilet and the shelves were washed with one rag, which caused consternation among tourists.
“In one hotel where I worked, they washed a white duvet only if there was a really dirty stain on it. The hotel I just started working at is even worse. They have brown blankets that literally never wash,” he wrote in his post. This comment sparked heated discussions among users, many of whom also worked in the hotel industry and shared similar stories.
“As a former partner of the Management group, who owned several franchises, I can confirm that this is an industry standard: after use, only sheets and pillows are washed by guests, the countertop is wiped every six months, and deep cleaning of rooms is carried out once a year or after incidents,” agreed one of the participants in the discussion.
The revelations also touched upon the hygiene of cruise ships. “If someone urinated on the mattress or vomited on it, which happened quite often, the mattress was simply turned over. The problem is solved. We usually had 45 seconds to wash the toilet and shower, as well as wipe all surfaces in the cabin — our boss spotted us. All this was done with one small cloth, starting from the toilet seat. The last thing, i.e. the same cloth, was used to wash all surfaces in the cabin.”
These confessions shocked many users of the forum. Some users have stated that they will now take their own blankets, sheets and pillows with them on trips.
