The most anticipated annual event of the tourism industry, the 30th anniversary International Exhibition of Tourism and Hospitality Industry MITT 2024, took place in Moscow from March 19 to 21.

This year, the event broke the record again — more than 16 thousand people visited MITT 2024 during three exhibition days. In 2023, this figure was 14.8 thousand — and it was also a record: an increase of 61% compared to 2022. More than 909 companies from 29 countries took part in the exhibition. Among them are delegations from regions of Russia and foreign countries, leading travel operators and travel agents, hotel chains, carriers, MICE agencies, search and online booking systems, caravanners and other industry participants. The media showed special attention to the event — more than 300 journalists worked for MITT these days, among whom were representatives of news agencies, federal channels, business, news and industry publications. As a result, more than 3,000 mentions of the exhibition appeared in the media.
Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko sent an appeal to the participants of MITT 2024. He confirmed that the systematic development of the tourism and hospitality industry in This is an important area for the Russian national economy. In accordance with the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the national project “Tourism and the Hospitality Industry” is being implemented in the Russian Federation, providing unprecedented financial support and conditions for development. It is expected that by 2030, the number of trips of citizens across the country will increase to 140 million trips per year, including through the construction of such new federal resorts as the 5 Seas project.
The tourism industry continues to grow consistently: the Ministry of Economic Development expects that the incoming tourist flow will amount to 9.5 million people by the end of 2024, Deputy Head of the department Dmitry Vakhrukov said at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. “The global tourism sector accounts for more than 3.5% of global GDP, and tourism is becoming a driver of economic growth, which entails an increase in people’s well—being and contributes to the influx of new private investment,” he said.
58 regions of the Russian Federation became participants of MITT 2024. All of them actively create and develop an infrastructure convenient for travelers and stimulate new types of tourism — from skiing and wellness to event and author’s tourism. The opening regions were Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, taking part in the exhibition for the first time.
Foreign participants also introduced visitors to the exhibition with wide opportunities for recreation and national flavor: Cuba, Uzbekistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi), Jordan, Tajikistan and others. The partner country of the event was India (under the Incredible India brand): representatives of the Ministry of Tourism of the country shared with the guests information about current destinations for recreation. For the first time, North Korea became a participant in MITT: within the framework of the exhibition, a press conference was held on the development of relations between the Russian Federation and The DPRK in the field of tourism and the launch of the North Korean Government-licensed tourism operator “Project Pyongyang”. According to his representatives, North Korea expects to become a worthy analogue of high—quality beach and mountain holidays for Russians – already now the residents of our country are waiting for a high level of service and friendly attitude towards Russian-speaking tourists.
MITT 2024 Business Program

The key event of the MITT 2024 business program was the IV Forum of Leaders of the Tourism industry and the hospitality industry. The main focus of the discussion centered around the trends that will shape the industry in the future. One of the most notable events of the exhibition was the federal meeting “Strategy for Sustainable Development in an unstable world: Tourism and Hospitality”. The event brought together representatives of 15 relevant committees, as well as 5 online participants, among whom is the Russian Geographical Society, which is directly related to the development of the tourism sustainability ranking. At the meeting, the experts not only discussed the successful practice of the regions in this area, but also identified the main goals of the sustainable development strategy for the coming year. Nikolay Valuev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Tourism and Tourism Infrastructure Development, noted that tourism has shown itself to be one of the drivers of the economy in recent years. Valuev stressed that it is the domestic tourist flow that is growing (and this is important in the context of Western sanctions). He also drew attention to the importance of creating new points of attraction for the stable development of tourism. Special emphasis was placed on St. Petersburg: Valuev noted the special merits of the Committee for Tourism Development in the implementation of projects to promote it.
Valuev’s words are confirmed by official statistics. Kirill Rodin, Director of Government Relations at VTSIOM, shared the results of a survey in which Russians told where they spent their holidays in 2023.
The speaker of the session, Vladimir Kulikov, head of the public sector products department at Sberbank, announced statistical data on the volume of tourist flow growth: in 2023 it amounted to 153 million trips, which is 27.5% more than in 2022.
