
ATOR reports that the Turkish authorities are unable to control forest fires. The fire partially engulfed several provinces — Izmir, Canakkale, Bolu, Manisa, Aydin, Mugla, Mersin, Karabuk.
So, in Izmir, fires began last Friday, the fire occurred in a forest area and soon, due to strong winds, it got close to the industrial zone and residential areas. The authorities evacuated the residents. Several houses burned to the ground, 78 people were injured, mostly from smoke inhalation, 29 of them were hospitalized.
The country’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli, said that the Turkish fire services continue to fight forest fires. Extinguishing the fire is complicated by the heat and gusty winds. About 1,400 rescuers, 265 fire trucks and 45 specialized aircraft are involved.
