Bodrum hotels are forced to raise prices due to the short tourist season, high operating costs, as well as a sharp rise in rents and a weakening lira. This opinion was expressed by the president of the Association of Professional Hotel Managers of the region Sabahattin Duman.
He noted that now the tourist season is only 2 months, many hotels simply cannot afford to work longer. The whole point is a violation of the balance of income and expenses: costs become too high, and profits remain quite modest. In a short period of time, you need to cover not only the annual rent, but also the cost of repairs, infrastructure upgrades, employee salaries, and so on.
“While the income of hoteliers who signed contracts in foreign currency increased by 24%, expenses increased by 50-70%. VAT, electricity, water and other payments have increased significantly. The rent for housing has also jumped sharply,” Sabahattin Duman explained.
He also suggested ways to solve problems. These include supporting hotels and reducing rents so that hotels can receive tourists not for 2 months, but for 5 or even 6; reducing airport fees to give an advantage in the cost of flights to Bodrum; tax benefits during the low season. In addition, it is necessary to create a separate team consisting of travel industry professionals, athletes, government officials and journalists in order to promote recreation in the region through the same influential people.
It should be noted that this year Bodrum has already postponed the official start of the tourist season, which began in June instead of May. One of the reasons for this decision was the financial difficulties of many local hotels, which arose due to inflation, as well as a significant decrease in foreign tourist traffic.
