All women are witches, but not all have real secret knowledge. American photographer Frances F. Denny decided to create a unique series of images of those who possess magical powers. Frances F. Denny created the series of portraits “High Magic: Witches of America” in order to show the amazing combination of modernity and deep ancient knowledge that these women carry. She traveled around the United States and took portraits of those who call themselves witches. The photographer will show her work at an exhibition in Chelsea so that visitors can get to know more closely those about whom they are often afraid to speak out loud.

Her heroines are women of different ages, social statuses and nationalities, practicing different types of rituals. The photographer focused on mysticism, occult knowledge, polytheism, herbal medicine and secret rituals that fill the life of each of these women. Francis wants society to take a closer look at the individuality and diversity of modern witches, rather than looking at them through the prism of stereotypes.

For portrait photography, the photographer asked the heroines to wear the outfit that best demonstrates their activities. Original capes, massive jewelry, expressive eye makeup and a mysterious facial expression are what vividly emphasizes the status of a witch. The servants of secret cults brought magical objects with them to the photo shoot, which they use in their rituals: crystal balls, bows and arrows, wooden sticks and even snakes.
