A new entry system for foreigners will start operating in South Africa, under which foreign citizens will need to submit biometrics.

According to ATOR, in the autumn of 2024, South Africa plans to complete a project to introduce a “Biometric Movement Control System” (BMCS), the launch of which was announced back in 2017.
In accordance with this project, biometric verification of all travelers arriving in the country will be introduced in order to identify them and track their movement. As part of the BMCS, tourists will be fingerprinted and scanned at the entrance to South Africa, respectively, verifying these data when leaving the country.
According to the plans of the South African authorities, the BMCS system will be deployed at all points of entry into South Africa by September 30, 2024, and at the country’s main airport, Tambo Airport, it will be operational by the end of August.
South African Airways also warned of longer queues at passport control at entry/exit from the country and possible delays in baggage collection, which could lead to missed connections.
