The Acropolis in Greece will be closed during the hottest hours

As ATOR writes with reference to a report by The Guardian, on June 12 in the capital In Greece, due to the intense heat, the most popular tourist site in the country, the Acropolis, was closed for visiting during the day.

This year’s heat wave came to Greece earlier than in previous seasons. “In the twentieth century, we have never had a heat wave before June 19th. There were several of them in the 21st century, but none before June 15,” said Panos Yiannopoulos, a meteorologist at state television.

It is not possible to enter the Acropolis from 12:00 to 17:00 on days when the temperature exceeds +43 °C.

Greek authorities have warned of a high risk of fires in the Attica region. Schools were closed, civil servants were transferred to a remote mode of operation. Citizens are asked to suspend any activity, including food delivery, during the hottest hours.
