During the period from January to June, Russia took the second place in terms of inbound tourist traffic to the Maldives.
In total, 1,015,529 foreign visits were made to the Maldives in the first half of 2024. This is 9.2% more than in the same period of 2023. This is reported by ATOR with reference to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism of the Maldives.
China became the leader in the inbound tourist flow to the Maldives, from where 120,726 trips were made (+90.35% compared to the first half of 2023). This allowed China to rise from the third to the first position in the TOP 10 markets for the Maldives.
Russia is in second place with an indicator of 105,068 visits (-3.18%). Next are the United Kingdom with 93,291 visits (+16.1%), Italy with 79,909 visits (+24.4%) and Germany with 78,135 visits (+18%).
It is noted that in the first half of 2023, India was the leader in the inbound tourist flow to the Maldives. In 2024, Indian tourists took the 6th position with 63,463 visits (-45.5%).
At the same time, despite an almost twofold drop in arrivals from India, the Maldives continues to increase the total foreign tourist flow, primarily due to the extremely rapid growth of the Chinese market.
