Russia is discussing the introduction of visa-free travel with Zimbabwe

Россия обсуждает введение безвиза с Зимбабве

Russia may have a visa-free regime with Zimbabwe, Izvestia reports, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry. Negotiations with the African country are already underway, while the issue is being worked out.

Now you can get a visa to Zimbabwe when crossing the border, it costs $ 30 (about 2,700 rubles). At the same time, the visitor must present documents confirming the purpose of the visit, for example, a voucher for a tour.

Russia already has a visa-free regime with African countries such as Angola, Malawi and Mozambique. You do not need to apply for an entry permit to visit Sao Tome and Principe, but the visit should not take more than 15 days. Short-term trips without obtaining a visa are available to Russians in Botswana, Cape Verde, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa and the Seychelles.

Zimbabwe is not the most popular destination for Russian tour operators.  As a rule, travelers explore several countries of South Africa at once with accommodation in small houses, hotels and campgrounds.

Zimbabwe is considered a relatively safe destination. But despite the spectacular landscapes and unusual local attractions, tourists do not tend to go there. Firstly, the country does not have direct access to the ocean, which immediately cuts off beach lovers, and secondly, traveling in Zimbabwe is not a cheap pleasure. A 10-14-day tour costs 250-400 thousand rubles. Plus, you need to pay for air tickets – they will cost at least 65 thousand rubles per person in one direction. This cost is due to the lack of direct flights – you need to make at least two transfers on the way to Zimbabwe.

The fact that direct flights are necessary for the emergence of tourist traffic in Zimbabwe was said last year. But the Africans left the solution to the issue to the Russian carriers – the level of aviation does not allow them to launch their own flights.
