Residents of the Karelian village do not like dust from tourists

Unhappy residents of Karelian village dislike the dust from tourists.

Жителям карельского поселка не нравится пыль от туристов

Residents of the small Karelian village of Tiurula are not at all happy about the tourist flow that has grown recently. On the contrary, judging by the messages on social networks, if they had their way, they would not let vacationers in at all.

The reason lies in the primer that runs through the village to the shore of Lake Ladoga, more precisely, to the bridge that leads to the largest island of Kilpola in Ladoga. It is very popular with tourists, there are many recreation centers and campsites. And therefore, in summer, the traffic flow through Tiurula is huge – up to 600 cars pass through a day. And this is a constant noise, but the main thing is spoiled air. “Cars raise huge clouds of dust that do not have time to settle. There is smog in the village. There is no way to breathe. Residents are hostages!!!” – tiurul residents complain in the group “Lahdenpohya Live” in VK.

Residents of the village have repeatedly appealed to the local authorities with a request to somehow solve the problem. For example, at a minimum: put up speed-limiting road signs (some tourists like to accelerate on a dirt track), and install speed bumps. However, the main dream is for the road to be paved. But officials are in no hurry to help. As the Prime Minister of the regional government Oksana Chebunina told the Karelian media, 300 million rubles are needed to repair the highway. And there is no such money in the republican budget.

However, the authorities still promised some help to the residents of Tiurula. The planned irrigation of the dirt road was supposed to take place in June, but after complaints it will be carried out this week. For a few days, I think it will help.

We are not very satisfied with the growth of tourist traffic not only in Karelia. For example, residents of the Altai Republic really do not like that visitors leave autographs on local rocks. And in Zelenogradsk, citizens are outraged that already in May vacationers are walking around the city center in swimming trunks, and the authorities intend to fight such tourists with the involvement of vigilantes.
