St. Petersburg Pulkovo Airport will pay 552,000 rubles to Rossiya Airlines for the repair of an aircraft that was damaged due to a bird.
The incident occurred in June 2022. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 of Russia was flying from St. Petersburg to Ufa. He was forced to abort the takeoff due to a bird trapped in the engine. The aircraft was suspended from flights, and a backup board arrived for the passengers.
Later, the investigation was handled by a commission created by the Federal Air Transport Agency, which concluded that the culprit of the incident was Pulkovo Airport, which failed to protect aircraft from collisions with birds.
The amount of the fine consisted of expenses for engine repairs and forced downtime of the aircraft.
Russia also demands 40 million rubles from Tobolsk airport due to a duck caught in the engine in March last year.
