Such data is provided by the MTS Travel travel service, having analyzed the trips of Russians to the Far East lasting from 5 to 14 days. At the same time, the number of trips to the Far Eastern regions increased by 16% over the year.

Kamchatka Krai, which attracts tourists with its unique nature, took the second place after Primorye among the most popular summer destinations. Its share was 14%. Buryatia is in the third place with a share of 12% — interest in the region is also due to the many natural attractions, among which Lake Baikal is the main point of attraction.

According to MTS Travel, Russian travelers’ interest in such regions of the Far East as Sakhalin (+42% of trips), Yakutia (+28% of trips) and Kamchatka Krai (+25% of trips) grew the most in the summer. The increased number of trips to Yakutia is connected, among other things, with event tourism — this summer the International Sports Games “Children of Asia” were held in the region. The Kamchatka Territory and Sakhalin have long established themselves as new points of attraction for fans of adventure tourism. The Khabarovsk Territory remains traditionally popular.

“We see an increase in tourist interest in the Far Eastern regions and, in response to growing demand, we are developing infrastructure, creating high-quality rooms and points of attraction. For example, as part of the national tourism project, 21 large hotels with 4.6 thousand rooms are being built in the Far Eastern Federal District under the preferential lending program. Such projects will appear, among others, in Buryatia, Primorsky and Khabarovsk Territories, Sakhalin Region and Kamchatka. In addition, a project for the construction of the Three Volcanoes Park ski complex received support in Kamchatka. The volume of the subsidized loan portfolio of the listed projects is 78 billion rubles. Another important area is the construction of modular hotels. Almost 750 million rubles were allocated to the regions of the district for the construction of modules over two years. Buryatia and Yakutia received the largest amount of support,” said Konstantin Gorodilin, Deputy Director of the Tourism Development Department of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.

The TOP regions with the largest number of trips to the Far East included St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the Novosibirsk Region (9% each), the Krasnoyarsk and Krasnodar Territories (5% each). At the same time, residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region came to the Far Eastern Federal District most of all from other regions of Russia — their share of all trips was 30%.

Compared to last year, residents of Udmurtia began to travel to the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District more often this summer — the increase in trips year-on-year amounted to 39%. Also, the TOP regions where interest in trips to the Far East has grown over the year include the Rostov Region (+30% of trips), Stavropol Territory (+29%), Samara Region (+28%) and Tatarstan (+27%).

According to official data from Rosstat, in the period from January to July 2024, 2.4 million people were accepted into collective accommodation facilities in the Far East. This is 12% more than in the same period last year. The three most popular tourist regions included Primorsky Krai (684 thousand people), Khabarovsk Krai (453 thousand people) and the Republic of Buryatia (354 thousand people).
