Interfax reports that the nuclear icebreaker 50 Years of Victory will depart from the port of Murmansk on July 4 on the first tourist flight to the North Pole this year and at the same time deliver the famous traveler Fyodor Konyukhov and the master of sports of international class Igor Potapkin to the Franz Josef Land archipelago.
According to FSUE Atomflot, Konyukhov and Potapkin plans to set a new record in the field of Arctic non—stop flights – to fly from the Franz Josef Land archipelago to the North Pole on a two-seat paraglider with a unique fairing (high-tech materials for it were supplied by the composite division of Rosatom State Corporation).
The aerodynamic parameters of the paraglider will increase the maximum flight range from 900 to 1200-1300 km. Travelers intend to make their flight in 8-14 hours, but its final length and time spent will largely depend on weather conditions and wind direction.
