Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnodar Territory voted to change the status of the resort city of Anapa. Now it is not a city, but a municipal district.
The authorities made this decision because Anapa did not meet the criteria of the city in terms of the share of the urban population and the area of the territory: of the 203,900 inhabitants of Anapa, only 82,600 are urban, the rest are classified as rural. The population density is 1402.01 people/km2.
The change of status is associated with the implementation of administrative and municipal reform throughout the country. The new status of Anapa is not a reason for the early termination of the powers of local self-government bodies of the city district. The innovation will also have no effect on the lives of local residents and tourists themselves.
