On September 5, 2024, Air China opened regular flights on the new Urumqi – Moscow – Urumqi route from Sheremetyevo International Airport. On the occasion of the inaugural flight, a solemn ceremony was held at the airport with the participation of the First Secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Russian Federation, Mr. Sun Yongjun, the Second Secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Russian Federation, Mr. Kang Xiaoxing, Deputy General Director for Finance and Commercial Activities of JSC MASH A.P. Oleinik and the General Director of the Moscow Representative Office of Air China Mr.on Wang Yun.
Opening the ceremony, Alexander Oleinik, Deputy General Director for Finance and Commercial Activities of MASH JSC, stressed: “Historically, cooperation with China and Chinese airlines has been of strategic importance for Sheremetyevo Airport. Thus, since 2019, passenger traffic between our countries has increased by one and a half times. The dynamic development of the route network of Air China, China’s flagship national carrier and our reliable partner, will create the necessary conditions for strengthening tourism and business ties between Russia and China.”
The General Director of the Moscow representative office of Air China, Mr. Wang Yun, in turn, noted: “Today we are very pleased to announce the opening of the Air China Moscow – Urumqi flight. As the CEO of the Moscow Representative Office of Air China, it is a great honor for me to be here today. We express our heartfelt gratitude for the support and assistance from Sheremetyevo Airport in organizing this event. As always, Air China will adhere to its core concept of “safety first”, ensuring high quality service and efficient operation. This route will become a new link that strengthens the friendship of the peoples of the two countries.”
Flights on the Urumqi – Moscow – Urumqi route are operated three times a week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) on a modern Boeing B737-800 airliner. Arrival from Urumqi is at 19:10 Moscow time, departure from Moscow is at 21:25 Moscow time. Air China passengers are served in the modern Terminal C with a wide range of services for various categories of passengers. Special conditions are provided for a comfortable stay for travelers from China, which is confirmed by the certificate of the China Friendly international program.
Urumqi is an important economic, cultural and transport center in northwest China. The development of air links with the capital of Russia will expand the tourist potential of the region, known for its modern urban infrastructure, unique cultural customs, and original gastronomic traditions.
