Travel planning service OneTwoTrip conducted a study and found out from its customers how often they travel around the country and which cities of Russia they have recently visited. The experts compared the results with a similar survey last year.

Thus, the majority of respondents, or 40.1%, travel to Russia a couple of times a year. Many, or 20.1%, go somewhere once a year, 15.3% — once a quarter, and 8.4% — monthly. Another 9.1% replied that they travel around the country quite rarely, 5.4% travel only abroad, and 1.6% do not travel at all, explaining this by lack of financial opportunities (15.4%), work or study (9.2%).
Interestingly, compared to the data of 2023, the number of travelers who do not go anywhere at all has decreased by 2 times. In general, more Russians began to explore their native country regularly: the number of trips a couple of times a year increased by 11%, and once a month — by 27%.
Which cities have you visited recently
The majority of respondents, or 16.7%, last stayed in hotels in St. Petersburg. 63.7% of travelers liked the hotels of the Northern Capital, especially they often noted the good location, high level of comfort and service. But 10.9% felt that the living experience could have been better: some felt that the rooms did not have enough amenities. The rest of the guests had neutral impressions. More than half of the tourists, or 50.9%, are likely to return to their chosen hotel, 27.3% will definitely book it again, and 21.8% will look for other accommodation next time. It should be noted that the picture has changed a lot over the year: in 2023, more Russians were completely satisfied with the quality of St. Petersburg hotels — then 76.8% replied that they would definitely return to the same hotel, and almost 2 times fewer guests were going to look for other accommodation.
Many travelers (14.1%) have recently stayed in Sochi, and most of them (44.7%) liked the chosen hotel. The location and amenities in the rooms were especially often noted — the presence of a TV, air conditioning, hair dryer and so on. It was mainly the low level of comfort that was confused, which was noted by 20% of respondents who believe that it could be higher in a hotel. And 2.4% did not like the hotel that was chosen at all, mainly because of poor service. In 2023, the main criteria that did not suit the guests were tasteless food and poor infrastructure nearby. Most tourists are not sure that they will return to the same accommodation facility — 47.1% of respondents chose this answer option. Another 21.2% said they would book a room there next time. But the number of guests dissatisfied with the hotel was as much as 31.7% — they will definitely look for other accommodation. In 2023, only 2.9% of respondents gave such an answer.
The capital turned out to be the third most popular city among travelers: 12.8% of Russians who took part in the survey recently vacationed in Moscow. Many of them, or 48.8%, liked everything — especially the location, comfortable rooms and service. 40.2% were neutral about the accommodation, and 8.5% said it could have been better — mostly they were not happy with the high cost of the rooms. 2.5% didn’t like it at all: mostly the low level of service was confusing. At the same time, the majority, or 59.8% of the guests, replied that they would probably consider the same hotel on their next visit to the capital, and 22% would definitely return to the same one. The rest, or 18.2%, will look for other options.
Kazan also entered the top popular cities: 5.5% of the surveyed travelers stayed in hotels in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan not so long ago. Most of them, or 88.9%, liked everything, especially noting the location of the hotel and the amenities in the rooms. The remaining 11.1% reacted neutrally to the experience of living in Kazan. At the same time, 66.7% of respondents replied that they would probably choose the same hotel on their next visit, while 33.3% were sure of this ― they were so satisfied with everything.
Tourists often stayed in Kaliningrad: the share of the city was 3.8%. Many, or 78.9%, praised the location, level of comfort and service, and 21.1% rated the hotels neutrally. Those who did not like anything were not among the respondents. The majority, or 52.6%, will return to the same hotel next time, and 47.4% may look for other options, but in general they can repeat the booking.
And finally, 3.7% recently lived in Nizhny Novgorod. Hotel ratings vary there: 55% of travelers liked everything (especially the amenities in the rooms, the level of comfort and service), 25% rate the hotel neutrally, 15% believe that it could have been better (mostly they were not satisfied with the high cost of living). But 5% had a negative experience: respondents did not like the amenities in the rooms. However, the majority, or 60%, may still return to the same hotel, and 15% will definitely not look for another place to live, and 25% will most likely choose a different hotel next time.
