According to the Milliyet newspaper, yesterday a cabin broke off on the Tunektepe Teleferik cable car in Antalya, Turkey. As a result of its fall, one person was killed, seven (including two children) were injured.
According to the publication, there were eight people in the cabin at the time of the accident. The victims were hospitalized.
After the accident, 184 people were stuck in 25 stopped cabins, they were evacuated by rescuers using helicopters.
The exact cause of the accident is still unknown, eyewitnesses reported that they heard an explosion, after which the road stopped. According to another version, the support of the cable car broke and touched the cabin during the fall. The floor was destroyed in it and people fell to the ground.
The Tunektepe Teleferik gondola cable car was built in Antalya in 2017. Its length is 1.7 km, it lifts passengers to a height of 605 m — to the top of the Tunektepe mountain of the same name, where an observation deck is located.
