The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry urged citizens of the country not to rest in those countries where many Russian tourists come.
The Chancellor of the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Inga Chernyuk, said that, for example, in Egypt, Turkey and Thailand, the risk of conflicts due to differences in assessments of what is happening in Ukraine has “greatly increased.” In other words, Lithuanian officials are afraid that Russian tourists may open their eyes to what is happening to Lithuanians.
Recall that right on Cosmonautics Day on April 12, an incident occurred between Lithuanian and Russian tourists in one of the hotels in Egypt. A group of vacationers from Lithuania decided to have fun in the karaoke of the hotel, where after one of the songs they began shouting slogans in support of Ukraine. Naturally, Russian tourists reacted to this, who threw dishes at the Lithuanians from the tables. As a result, Lithuanian vacationers had to urgently move to another hotel.
Also, according to representatives of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, trips to Armenia, Moldova and Georgia are also undesirable for Lithuanians. In these countries, society does not share the “values of Lithuania”, which can lead to conflicts, officials are sure.
“If we can choose European destinations, then let’s choose them,” she added. However, Russian tourists also travel to Europe, although much less due to the lack of direct flights and visa problems.
