Why Is There Water In The Batteries In Summer?

The editorial response is 0 + –

In most Russian cities, residential apartment buildings are heated with hot water that flows through the pipes of the central heating system. The water is heated to a high temperature by thermal power plants or urban boiler houses. After the end of the heating season, the water stops heating, but it does not leave the radiators. I figured out why there is water in the batteries even in summer aif.ru .

This question was answered by experts of the Moscow municipal economy complex:

— With the end of the heating season, central or individual heating points stop heating the coolant in the radiators. At this time, it may be tempting to drain the water from the batteries. Nevertheless, such actions can negatively affect the performance of radiators. The coolant is poured into pipes and batteries in such a way as to fill the space inside completely. This eliminates the presence of air and prevents its further penetration into the system. When oxygen enters the radiator, the process of rust formation accelerates in those places where it comes into contact with the surface. Batteries are generally susceptible to corrosion, but the high alkali content in the coolant and the insulation from the air help slow down this process. If there is an unauthorized discharge of water, the risk of rust increases.

The municipal service reminds that during scheduled replacement of radiators and pipes, as well as in case of an emergency, only an employee of the management organization can drain the water. To call the wizard, you need to call the dispatch service and make an application.

Is it possible to drain the water from the batteries yourself?

Unauthorized draining of water from the heating system is prohibited. This can lead to additional costs and negatively affects the performance of radiators, the Moscow municipal economy complex warned.

“Sometimes residents try to independently adjust the operation of the heating system — using Mayevsky taps or draining water from the radiator. It is not worth doing this for several reasons. When water is drained without permission, the overall temperature in the heating system of the whole house decreases. As a result, an imbalance occurs, residents of other floors suffer, and the batteries in their apartments become cold. Moreover, this leads to additional costs — the system gets the necessary amount of water, therefore, household expenses are growing,” the official website of the mayor of the capital published an explanation of the Moscow municipal economy complex.
