Good audibility of neighbors is one of the problems of apartment buildings. Steps from above, the operation of a drill or a puncher, loud music and a working TV — all this causes inconvenience to residents. Why the neighbors can be heard through radiators and sockets — I figured it out aif.ru .
To this question aif.ru interior designer Mikhail Dudchenko answered:
— Usually, in high-rise buildings, sound is best carried out by communication. And the problem here is not so much in sockets and radiators, as in poor sound insulation between floors and apartments. When developers make holes for communications, they simply do not isolate these places. They do not lay all kinds of insulation, noisemakers, at best they are treated with mounting foam, which does not have sound-insulating properties to a sufficient extent.
Why can you hear the neighbors through the sockets?
Residents of panel houses are most often affected by noise. During their construction, plates were used, in which holes for sockets are provided. And it turns out that in this place there is no partition between the apartments, but just sockets on both sides, through which the neighbors can be heard very well, the expert explains. To remove this sound source, the sockets must be moved and the holes sealed.
“The situation in modern buildings is not much better. The thickness of the walls is usually 25 centimeters between the apartments. A hole is drilled into the wall to a depth of 8-10 centimeters for the socket, and it does not make noise in any way, that is, the socket is simply inserted into the socket. Accordingly, the wall thickness is reduced to 15-17 centimeters. And if the same thing is done in the next apartment, then the thickness of this partition becomes generally negligible, which is why it becomes so good audibility. Plus, modern materials do not have any sound insulation,” said the interior designer.
Why can you hear the neighbors through the radiators?
“The point here is most likely not in radiators or pipes, but in the holes around them. The gap between the pipe and the edges of the hole in the floor slab can be sealed with a thin layer of cement mortar or mounting foam. Not only sounds, but also smells can penetrate through such junctions. To solve the problem, it is necessary to carry out a set of measures to de—noise all these holes,” Mikhail Dudchenko advised.
