The beaches of Koh Samui are distinguished by their azure waters, picturesque tropical vegetation and the lack of mass tourism in the coastal area. Due to the special location of the island, many beaches are characterized by long tides. However, they do not become an obstacle to a full-fledged coastal holiday.
Chaweng Beach
Chaweng Beach is one of the most well—equipped resort areas of Koh Samui. It is located in the southeastern part of the island and stretches for 6 km. Chaweng is covered with fine golden sand, and there are many restaurants and bars along the coast, as well as premium hotels. It is suitable for swimming with small children due to its shallow depth and shallow entrance. Wat Sawang Arom Buddhist Temple and Khao Hua Jook Pagoda are located near the beach.
Bo Beach Phut (Bo Phut Beach)
Bo Beach Phut is located in the north of Koh Samui, near the international airport. One of the most sparsely populated beaches on the island. The beach offers scenic views of Phangan Island.
Due to the fact that there is a fishing village 5 minutes from the beach, the place is quite popular with tourists. There are restaurants of local and European cuisine, cafes and shops along the entire beach.
Lamai Beach
It is located in the southeast of Koh Samui, its length is just over 4 km. Lamai, according to tourists, is one of the best beaches on the island: a clear transparent sea, a picturesque bay with rocks surrounded by palm trees and a well-equipped promenade with restaurants and local boutiques. Not far from Lamai is home to a market, Lamai Buddhist Temple and an observation deck.
Lipa Noi Beach
The beach is located in the western part of Koh Samui, which allows you to admire the best sunsets on the island. It is considered a wild secluded beach due to its distance from the main tourist centers. The length is about 4 km. The sandy beach is dotted with many small beautiful shells, and a palm grove along the Linden Tree protects from direct sunlight during the day. Hin Lat Waterfall (Hin Lad) and the cultural center of Koh Samui are located near the beach.
Maenam Beach
Located in the north of Koh Samui, it is considered one of the most beautiful and convenient beaches on the island due to its length (5 km), lack of waves, soft entry into the water and fine golden sand. The advantage of the beach for those who like to swim is also a quick set of depth — a few meters from the entrance to the water.
Maenam is notable for its lack of bustling nightlife, bars and restaurants. Luxury hotels are located on the first line of the beach, and in the vicinity you can find long-term rental housing, supermarkets and small markets.
Chaweng Noi Beach
Chaweng Noi is located in the southeastern part of the island and is known for its beautiful sunrises on the coast. This small beach is located directly next to luxury luxury hotels. There are numerous massage parlors along the embankment, and the Lad Koh observation deck is located nearby. There is also a small coral reef on the outskirts of Chaweng Noi Beach, where you can go diving.
Crystal Bay Beach
Located in the southeast of Koh Samui, it is famous for its picturesque boulders, white sand and palm grove. The short length (300 m) and popularity among tourists make this beach quite crowded at any time of the year. There are small local restaurants nearby.
Bang Beach Po (Bang Po Beach)
The 3 km long beach is located in the north of Koh Samui and is ideal for families with young children due to the gentle long entry into the water. The infrastructure of the beach is poorly developed: only a few bars and local supermarkets are located on the coast. After lunch, the tide begins to ebb on the beach, in places the bottom is covered with silt, there is a coral reef nearby.
Ban Thai Beach
A picturesque small beach with a palm grove and fine golden sand in the north of Koh Samui, between Bang Po and Maenam. The beach is suitable for families with children due to the gentle entrance to the water. In some places, the seabed is covered with algae and silt, but there are separate places with a comfortable entrance to the water. There are several hotels around the beach, there are several bars and restaurants.
Choeng Mon Beach
A small beach in the east of the island, 10 minutes from Koh Samui International Airport. The beach has a well-developed infrastructure: along the entire coast you can rent sun loungers, jet skis and kayaks. There are many restaurants, massage parlors, supermarkets in the surrounding area. The beach is suitable for families with children.
Thongson Bay Beach
A tiny unpopular beach north of Chong Mon, characterized by crystal clear water, white sand and almost no tourists. There are several restaurants around the beach, and kayak rentals are also available.
Nathon Beach
A large beach on the west coast of Koh Samui. There is a Buddhist temple and a state hospital not far from Naton. The beach belongs to the territory of the Naton settlement, so it cannot be called quiet and secluded, but thanks to this, cleanliness is always maintained after visiting tourists. Boats and speedboats are moored along the entire beach, and there is a small market on the promenade. The waters of the beach are not intended for swimming.
Bangrak Beach
It is located in the northeast of Koh Samui, a 5-minute drive from the international airport, which allows tourists to take popular photos with an airplane flying overhead. The beach is also located in close proximity to one of the main attractions of the island — the statue of the Great Buddha. It is most comfortable to swim in the central part of the beach — due to the rapid depth gain, since in the western and eastern parts the bottom is covered with small fragments of corals and sharp shells. The “Beach club” format is popular on the beach.
Na Thien Beach
Located in the southern part of the island, away from popular tourist routes, one of the most secluded beaches on the island Koh Samui. Natyen is not suitable for swimming due to the shallow depth and the presence of fragments of sharp shells covering the seabed, but it is one of the most beautiful places to watch the dawn.
