Restored fountains were clogged last Friday in Vyborgsky, Kirovsky, Tsentralny and Admiralteysky districts of St. Petersburg.
Vodokanal specialists repaired and re-launched them as part of the program for the restoration and reconstruction of urban fountains, formed on behalf of Governor Alexander Beglov in 2019.
The restored fountain at 61 Lesnoy Prospekt has a 90-year history. It was built in the courtyard of the House of Specialists, which was intended for scientists, production organizers, specialists of enterprises and organizations – research institutes and factories mainly on the Vyborg side. St. Petersburg specialists restored the structures of the fountain bowl lined with granite stone from Karelia and the process chamber, installed a distribution collector, laid new water supply and sanitation networks.
Fountains on 160 Stachek Avenue, 160 Fontanka Embankment and 26 Mokhovaya Street are among the typical ones – made of ready-made reinforced concrete structures. In the second half of the 20th century, many such fountains were built in the courtyards. The specialists actually built them anew: they updated the bowl structures, installed technological control chambers, mounted pumping equipment and architectural lighting fixtures for the water picture, and laid new water and sewer networks.
In total, 43 abandoned fountains were revived in St. Petersburg from 2019 to 2023. In the list of SUE Vodokanal St.‑St. Petersburg” has 17 more addresses in different areas of the city where non-working fountains are located. After their restoration, in fact, the program of reviving the fountain fund of the city will be completed.
