World tourism has changed: it has changed its leader — Spain, known for its protests against tourists, won the competition between the two main countries. Previously, the leading France took second place, but hopes to regain its position soon. Also, the most accessible and most popular country among our tourists turned out to be in the top five.
So, in 2023, Spain received an income of 84.9 billion euros from tourists and as many as 85.1 million visitors. Thus, it has overtaken France both in terms of the number of visitors and in terms of revenue — according to the National Bank of France, the latter amounted to 63.5 billion euros in 2023, and this is 12% more than in pre—crisis times – then it was 57 billion euros.
Closes the top three of the USA. The country has received 67.2 million tourists.
Italy, which is popular with Russian tourists, was also in the top five, and Turkey, which is even more popular with them. She did not lag far behind — both countries have a result of 57 million tourists, they differ in number by literally several thousand. And, by the way, they are also actively competing, last year the result was the opposite — Turkey overtook Italy.
In 2024, France intends to regain its leadership and receive 100 million tourists. This was stated by the Minister of Tourism, Olivia Gregoire. She said that France will regain its leadership in this area thanks to the Paris Olympic Games. The country expects the number of tourists to reach 100 million this year.
