Tourists were told how to carry fruits from Thailand

AZUR air has recently changed the conditions for the carriage of fruits on its flights from Thailand, canceling the fruit basket service, which allows you to carry fruits with a separate piece of luggage. At the same time, tourists often do not remember that fruits belong to products with a “high phytosanitary risk”, and therefore special import conditions apply to them in Russia. The industry publication Vestnik ATOR reminds travelers of all the rules.

Most vacationers coming from Thailand and other Asian countries tend to bring unusual exotic fruits with them. But do not forget that in our country it is possible to introduce such fruits and vegetables with a “high phytosanitary risk” (this category includes all exotic fruits) for personal purposes no more than 5 kilograms per person, it does not matter whether they are in hand luggage or in luggage. This restriction applies to all people crossing the customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union. If you are carrying more than the specified norm, then at the Russian customs you have the right to require phytosanitary certificates.

Air carriers set their own additional rules. For example, on AZUR air flights from November 2023, it is prohibited to carry individual fruit baskets in hand luggage – they must be packed in luggage or in bags and backpacks. Red Wings also prohibits carrying such baskets: passengers can put fruits in a basket weighing up to 5 kilograms in their luggage as an extra seat for $ 15. At the same time, the correspondent of the publication was informed in the call center of this airline that it is also impossible to simply put fruit in a suitcase, it is allowed to carry only in a basket and for a fee. Aeroflot and Icarus airlines flying to Thailand do not have any such prohibitions, fruits can be transported anywhere and however you want, guided only by general restrictions on the weight of hand luggage and luggage. On S7 flights, you can put no more than 5 kilograms of fruit in your hand luggage, more must be packed in a separate basket or box and checked in.
