A unique historical and archaeological park has opened in Sevastopol. Novy Chersonesos occupies a huge territory on the Black Sea coast and has no analogues in our country in terms of area.
Recall that the ancient city of Chersonesos, located on the territory of modern Crimea, has been part of the powerful Byzantine Empire since the 5th century AD. To get this city meant to master the keys to the trade routes of the Euxine Pontus, as the Black Sea was then called. Prince Vladimir occupied the city, then baptized himself and began to baptize Russia, thus marking the beginning of the unification of the tribes living on its territory into one people. Therefore, historians call Chersonesos the cradle of the Russian state.
The new park is located on an area of almost 25 hectares. Archaeologists have thoroughly explored the entire area: during the excavations, about 7 million artifacts were discovered. About 30 buildings were built in the new park: they resemble a real Byzantine city. There are 3 museums in the complex: the first Museum of Christianity in Russia, the Museum of Antiquity and Byzantium, the Museum of Crimea and Novorossiya. The complex also includes a temple park and an amphitheater with 1,200 seats.
The park is open from 9:00 to 21:00 until August 31. The cost of entrance tickets to the park for adult visitors is 500 rubles, for children from 7 to 16 years old and other privileged categories – 200 rubles, for kids under 7 years old and residents of Sevastopol – free of charge. We recommend checking the exact opening hours of the park in autumn and the prices for various combined tickets on the official website of Novy Chersonesos.
