The airport of the capital of Kalmykia, Elista, which has not functioned since the beginning of its operation in Ukraine, will take its first flight on May 28. The date of the opening of this airport in the south of Russia was announced by the Federal Air Transport Agency.
Representatives of the department explained that the Red Wings airline will carry out regular flights from the capital of Kalmykia to Zhukovsky airport near Moscow twice a week. Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft will be used for this route.
“Elista is the first airport to resume its work after a temporary suspension due to security reasons,” said Dmitry Yadrov, head of the Federal Air Transport Agency. “Currently, our common priority is to support this airport and promote the development of aviation services in this region.”
Recall that Elista Airport resumed its work on May 3, however, flight information was not initially provided. The Russian Aviation Authority reported that it is in the process of discussing a flight program with airlines for this harbor. The possibility of including this airport in the flight subsidy program is also being considered.
Elista is a city in the south of the European part Of Russia. The capital and largest city of the Republic of Kalmykia. It is located in the ravine of the river of the same name in the southeastern part of the Ergeni upland, 1,250 km southeast of Moscow.
Population: 103,219 (2024), area: 92.36 km2. Slightly less than half of the population of the Republic of Kalmykia lives in the city.
