The Russian Embassy recommends that you refrain from traveling to Haiti, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Russian ambassador to Venezuela and concurrently to Haiti, Sergei Melik-Baghdasarov. The warning of the diplomatic mission is related to the severe criminal situation in this state.
Recall that the socio-political crisis in the country erupted after the assassination of President Jovenel Moiz, which occurred in July 2021. Once again, the situation escalated on February 29, 2024, when shots were fired in the center of the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince. Since that day, gangsters have virtually paralyzed the life of this city and the whole country: they kidnap people for ransom and control vast territories and even such important facilities as fuel terminals. The criminals said they were going to remove Prime Minister Ariel Henri from the government of the country. After these events, a state of emergency was declared in Haiti. Despite the fact that the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, promised that Henri would leave his post, the situation has not yet returned to normal.
