The growth is marked by the results of both 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. The Federal Notary Chamber explains this by increasing the legal literacy of citizens

At the end of last year, notaries certified 119.4 thousand marriage contracts, which is 11% more than in 2022. Such data was provided to the editorial office by the press service of the Federal Notary Chamber (FNP). Growth continued in the first quarter of 2024, they noted.
The highest growth dynamics was recorded in Crimea (+88.6%), Smolensk (+46%) and Kaliningrad (+36.3%) regions. According to the FNP, in the first quarter of 2024, notaries have already certified almost 23 thousand marriage contracts, which is almost comparable to the same period last year (+1.2%).
“A prenuptial agreement helps to avoid property disputes between spouses and protects the interests of both partners. He can describe a wide range of issues: to whom and under what conditions the property belongs, how the family budget will be divided, what will be the responsibility of the spouses for debts,” the FNP explained.

In addition, the number of certified agreements on the division of property acquired in marriage is growing. According to the FNP, in 2023 their number increased by 15% and amounted to 24.8 thousand. In the first quarter of 2024, 5.3 thousand such agreements have already been certified, which is 8% more than in the first three months of last year.
Also in 2023, more than 173 thousand married couples turned to notaries for solving property and financial issues — 6% more than in the previous year. The top 5 regions for this indicator include Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Moscow Region, Krasnodar Territory, and Tatarstan. The opportunity to conclude transactions remotely added additional attractiveness to transactions in this area, the department noted.
In total, in 2023, notaries certified more than 1.8 million consents of spouses to transactions, which is 28% higher than the result of 2022. In the first quarter of 2024, about 350 thousand such consents were certified. We are talking about situations where the notarized consent of the second spouse is required. For example, if it is a mortgage or collateral agreement regarding residential or commercial real estate.
The very growth of appeals on family issues (marriage contracts, division of property) in the FNP was explained by an increase in legal literacy of citizens. “People choose civilized ways to resolve property issues within the family, they want to protect themselves from disputes and conflicts in the future,” they noted.
Earlier, notaries noted a high growth in the demand of Russians for remote real estate services. According to the FNP, the number of real estate transactions certified remotely with the help of several notaries increased fivefold in Russia in 2022. We are talking about the alienation of residential premises, land and plots with buildings.
