Restrictions on visiting Mount Fuji will affect tourists in July

The Japanese authorities have decided to limit the ascents of the popular Mount Fuji. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2024.

Ограничения на посещение горы Фудзи коснутся туристов уже в июле

The Yoshida Trail is a popular route for tourists to climb the mountain. However, it will soon not be as easy to get on it as before. Firstly, access to the trail will be paid. To do this, you will need to buy a ticket, the price of which is still unknown, it should be notified in February. Secondly, a certain number of tourists will be able to climb the mountain – no more than 4,000 people. Thirdly, access to the trail from 16:00 to 02:00 is prohibited.

The authorities of the country explain the introduction of such restrictions as follows. Many tourists treat the ecology of Japan in bad faith: they leave a lot of garbage behind. The established rules will help to free the trail from a large crowd of people and protect the nature of Mount Fuji. Also, those who have not traveled before and have no experience climbing a mountain often get injured due to the large flow of people.

According to the authorities, the money raised from ticket sales will be used to build protective structures. They will protect the trail from a possible volcanic eruption and help keep the tourist route in proper shape.
