According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), over the last month of summer, home sales in Turkey decreased by only 1.1% compared to August last year. 122,091 objects were sold.
The most popular region to buy is Istanbul, where 17,408 houses and apartments were purchased. Ankara is in second place, 11,007 housing units were purchased. The third most popular destination is Izmir, 6504 objects were sold here.
If we consider the period from January to August, home sales fell by 15.5% and amounted to 797,418 units of apartments and houses.
Foreigners and statistics
In total sales, the share of transactions with foreign clients amounted to 2.5%, and the number of objects sold was 3,058 units.
In August 2023, sales decreased by 42% compared to August 2022. However, sales increased by 9.18% compared to July 2023.
Rating of provinces and cities for buying foreign real estate from foreigners:
- Istanbul — 1066 objects sold;
- Antalya — 919 objects;
- Mersin — 248 objects.
By nationality, Russian citizens bought the most real estate in Turkey, who invested in 733 objects, a year ago the number was 1,238 units. The Iranians took the second place, they purchased 342 housing units. The third place was taken by Iraqi citizens who bought 220 apartments. Residents of Kazakhstan became new in the ranking, this time they accounted for 141 objects.
