The Mahanakhon Tower in Bangkok (King Power Mahanakhon) is the second tallest skyscraper in the capital of Thailand. The Mahanakhon high—rise is known as a pixel skyscraper, and its main attraction is an observation deck with a glass floor at an altitude of 413 meters. Mahanakhon Tower in Bangkok: why is it worth seeing a pixel skyscraper?

The King Power Mahanakhon Tower in Bangkok is an architectural masterpiece. The glass skyscraper has an unusual shape and looks like there are not enough blocks in the structure. This is clearly visible in the photo:

The tower is even more impressive when you see its interior. Mirrored floor, ceiling in the form of a 3d map of Bangkok, ice panels built into the walls. I read in one of the reviews that the interior looks very futuristic. But that’s not the future, now it’s the present.

The elevator in the pixel skyscraper is also an engineering genius. It lifts people to the 74th floor at a speed of 480 m/min or 8 m/s! There are no transfers like at the observation deck in Bayok Sky. Without the discomfort of acceleration. It just puts my ears in a bit, and only the screen indicates the upward movement of the elevator. Everything is so smooth.

Here are some more reasons to see the King Power Mahanakhon skyscraper:

1. The height of the tower is 314 m. It is the second tallest building in the Thai capital. The tallest building is the Magnolias Waterfront Residence with a height of 318 meters in the IconSiam complex. They are clearly visible from the observation deck on the roof of the tower.

What does an observation deck with a glass floor look like?

To get to the open observation deck with a glass floor, you need to go up to the 74th floor by elevator. There is a closed observation deck that works in bad weather. By the way, the view of Bangkok is the same on the closed observation deck. Only the sun doesn’t bake.

From the closed observation deck, you can climb to the very top of the Mahanakhon skyscraper either by a transparent elevator or by a transparent staircase.

Are you surprised? I was there too. Everyone wants a photo on the glass floor, so there is a constant crowd on the Skywalk. There is no order, no queue. A person can just stand in front of you. Why be modest: it didn’t just surprise me. It surprised me unpleasantly! I remembered the Menara Tower in Kuala Lumpur, where a queue is organized, and everyone has 90 seconds to take a photo all alone. And then I thought about everything that was happening. Does a photo really have SUCH value to push, to be nervous, to worry? Certainly not!

For some reason, the seating area with pillows does not look towards the sunset. But it’s still cool that there is such a zone. You can chill to a pleasant DJ set.

Is it worth going to the observation deck in the Mahanakhon skyscraper? My review

Despite all the hustle, I believe that the observation deck with a glass floor in the King Power Mahanakhon skyscraper is now one of the main attractions of Bangkok. This is a cool place with beautiful views of the capital of Thailand, with pleasant music and a good bar.

I liked the observation deck in the Mahanakhon Tower more than the observation deck in Bayiok Sky Tower II. It’s more modern, and the vibe is nicer here, not least thanks to a DJ with cool music.

The only advice I would give is: come to the exam room a little earlier. Not at 17-00, but at 16-30. Most people come precisely at sunset, and from 17-00 onwards the most crowded.

How much are the entrance tickets to the Mahanakhon Observation Deck?

The cost of entrance tickets to the observation deck depends on the time of the visit. The price order in 2024 is as follows:

I advise you to take tickets in advance. I bought on the Kluk website on the official page, here is the link. An email was sent with a QR code. I showed this QR code at the entrance. I didn’t take a paper ticket at the ticket office, I didn’t do anything extra.

Features of visiting the highest observation deck in Bangkok

1. Also, at the entrance on the ground floor, you need to pass an airport security check. They are forced to leave all large backpacks and bags in storage rooms. You can’t bring any tripods, drones, or parachutes with you. Food and water should also be left downstairs.

2. Shoe covers are given out before entering the observation room with a glass floor. Shoe covers are free. They are not allowed on the skywalk without them, even if you take off your shoes.

3. You cannot enter the glass floor with a phone. This is strictly monitored by the staff. Anyone with a phone is asked to either leave the glass floor or put the phone away.

How to get to the King Power Mahanakhon skyscraper in Bangkok

BTS Chong Nonsi Subway Station (3rd exit). The entrance to the tower is next to the exit from the subway, I will not miss it.

If you decide to take a taxi by 17-00, then set the time for traffic jams and for the queue at the entrance to the tower. Despite the fact that I laid down an extra 40 minutes for everything, the Bangkok traffic jams turned out to be stronger. I even managed to fall asleep in the taxi car 🙂

It saved a lot of time that I bought an entrance ticket in advance and did not queue at the ticket office. I would definitely be late for the sunset.
