Installers, adjusters and service specialists will be engaged in the new training center, training includes theory and practice

According to the HSE Institute for Statistical Research and Economics of Knowledge, the Personnel Vulnerability Index (ICI) is considered critical for a particular industry if it becomes higher than 7. At the end of last year, it was fixed at 7.4 in the construction industry, and this was already extremely dangerous, but by the end of the first quarter of 2024 it had grown to 11.5. However, there is nothing to be surprised about — in recent years, construction has been in the top 5 areas experiencing the most serious personnel shortage. Statistics from the National Association of Builders (NOSTROI) say that, for example, compared with 2022, by the beginning of 2024, the number of vacancies at construction sites increased by 31%. The Ministry of Construction says that by 2030 it is planned to attract up to 400 thousand people to the industry, that is, there is indeed a personnel shortage.

Production workers take over the training of personnel

Of course, market players, especially among the segment leaders, do not wait until the issue of both the number and quality of construction workers is resolved at the top, and they are looking for a way out on their own. Many companies with a strong production base create their own training centers, which train the specialists they need. In particular, Technonicol has such a training center (Technonicol specialists teach representatives of contractor companies how to work with prefabs and competently assemble houses right on the site), and recently Meteor Lift (formerly Otis Lift) opened the Meteor Lift Academy, where installers, adjusters and specialists will be trained for the maintenance of lifting equipment of both the company itself and its subcontractors.

“There is a shortage of qualified personnel in the field of vertical transport in the labor market. Our service portfolio includes more than 50 thousand units of lifting equipment, both of our own production and of third-party manufacturers, including imported high-speed elevators. Considering all this, the creation of the academy is a logical step that will allow us to attract new employees and improve the skills of current staff, train them to work with new equipment. This will improve the quality of our services and reduce the time required to complete the work without reducing their level and safety for passengers and technical specialists,” Meteor Lift says.

Plans for training elevator personnel at Meteor Lift Academy

The first installers from the Moscow division of the company have already started training. In the fourth quarter, the academy will open its doors to specialists from the capital’s service departments (250 students will start studying here by the end of 2024), and in 2025 this work will be extended to all federal districts in which Meteor Lift is present: Northwestern, Southern, Central, Volga, Ural and Far Eastern. Such a serious scale explains why investments in the personnel training project for the elevator industry will amount to more than 40 million rubles.

Therefore, studying at the academy is mandatory for our installers, adjusters, elevator maintenance specialists. But it is important to note that it is beneficial for them to improve their skills themselves, because it allows them to work with more complex equipment, which means they receive more income. And specialists working on a piecework wage system will be able to increase earnings due to an increase in the volume of orders, which will make Meteor Lift a more attractive employer. In addition, employees of our contractors will be trained: It will also increase the efficiency, quality and speed of the work they do on our order.”

What knowledge will give

The training at the academy will be two-stage. At the first stage, which started in August 2024, students take a theoretical course, get acquainted with the features of working with new lifting equipment manufactured by Meteor Lift and foreign elevators that the company supplies to the Russian market, including for high-rise construction. The second stage will begin in 2025 and will include practicing practical skills on simulators, simulators and stands.

The teachers of the academy are Meteor Lift employees who have many years of experience and have been trained, including in the training centers of manufacturers of foreign products with which the company works. Practical and theoretical classes are full—time, at the Moscow headquarters of the company, but for remote regions it is possible to conduct theoretical classes online. The curriculum for current specialists is individual, tailored to their current competencies. Assessment of the quality and effectiveness of training — entrance and exit tests provided for each course.

In short, everything is as it should be in a serious educational institution, which is what Meteor Lift Academy is designed to be.
