From November 10, 2024, the Entry/Exit System (EES) will start operating for foreigners entering the European Union, the Schengen.news portal reports. Thanks to the new system, the entry history of all foreign citizens will be recorded in the EU, even if they do not require a visa. According to European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ylva Johansson, EES is already undergoing the final stage of testing.
The main change that will occur in the border crossing procedure for tourists is as follows: self-service terminals will be installed before border control, where travelers will enter basic passport data and arrival date into the system. It will also be possible to do this through a mobile application. After that, tourists go to passport control, where the employee immediately sees all the entered information. According to EU officials, this will reduce the processing time at border control and help combat illegal migration and the use of forged documents.
If a person travels across the border regularly, you will not need to fill out the form every time: the border guard will instantly find all the fingerprint data. If you have a biometric passport, if the tourist has no restrictions for entry into the EU, he will be able to use automatic border control. At the same time, entry and exit stamps will no longer be placed in passports.
