On June 18, 2024, the Chinese Palace will open to visitors in Peterhof, Interfax reports, citing Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova. It has been closed for restoration since 2004. For 20 years, specialists have carried out work to restore the facades of the palace, created waterproofing and restored all 17 interiors.
The Chinese Palace, built in the XVIII century by architect Antonio Rinaldi in Oranienbaum Park, was part of the palace and park complex of Catherine II’s Own Country House. Initially, the building was one-story, and only in the middle of the XIX century, thanks to the plans of architects L. L. Bonstedt and A. I. Stackenschneider, a second floor was built, a gallery was glazed, connecting two risalites on the south side, and small rooms-anti-chambers were added to the east and west. The peculiarity of the palace is that it has repeating frames of doorways, panels, flaps, that is, each interior is unique and independent.
Now, on the 295th anniversary of the birth of the Empress, four halls are opening: the Chinese bedchamber, the toilet and portrait rooms and the Empress’s office.
