Tourists were told about tourism to Kamchatka, delicately bypassing the problems

Tourists discussing tourism in Kamchatka while navigating challenges delicately.

Туристам рассказали о туризме на Камчатку, деликатно обойдя проблемы

The TG channel of the Government of the Russian Federation published a post with an active link to one of the issues of the program “There is a solution” of the TV channel “Russia-24” on tourism to the Far East.

“How is tourism developing in the region: what about infrastructure, accommodation, meals and leisure? How profitable is it to build a business there? How can local entrepreneurs reset income and land taxes? And what large-scale tourism projects are already being built in the Far Eastern regions?” – the announcement on the government’s TG channel says.

Most of the 13-minute story is devoted to Kamchatka. Correspondent Maria Kudryavtseva talks on the spot with Alexander Moroz, the head of the mountain sports base at the foot of the volcano. He talks about the development of his business: they started with three houses for 10-15 people, now there are already 100 accommodation places, and this year it is planned to open 50 more rooms for tourists. Preferential loans with a government-subsidized interest rate help to expand. The entrepreneur associates great hopes with the Three Volcanoes Park resort, which is being built nearby as part of the national Tourism and Hospitality Industry project. There will be a new road from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to it, the path will be reduced several times. “With our small project, we could never have begged for the construction of a road for 8 billion rubles,” says the businessman. The proximity to a large resort will allow solving the problem of electricity supply in the future. In the meantime, the mining and sports base has to use diesel generators, which is 5 times more expensive than getting electricity through the grid.

Another participant in the TV story, Anton Morozov, the founder of Russia’s first surfing school, is also full of optimism. A subsidy from the state helped him build a glamping for surfers in Kamchatka and purchase equipment.

The plot also shows colorful sketches from the presentation of the future ski and balneological resort on hot springs. Hopefully, grandiose plans for the development of Kamchatka’s tourist infrastructure will be implemented in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, there are plenty of problems with tourism, which they delicately chose not to mention in the TV report. Even the banal issue of the availability of public toilets on tourist routes has not been resolved. The situation with hotel rooms is not much better either – for more than 350 thousand guests coming to Kamchatka during the year, there are only 3.3 thousand of them. And subsidized flights to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at reasonable prices can only be purchased a few months before the high tourist season. Now, for example, the cheapest flight option from Moscow on July 14 there, on the 21st back is offered for 47.8 thousand rubles. Moreover, Aeroflot will have to fly with a transfer in Anadyr – there are simply no economy class seats for direct flights anymore.

Recall that recently the summer tours to Kamchatka were canceled by the tour operator Fun & Sun. The reason is the termination of the state program for subsidizing charter flights in Russia.
