Thai authorities have issued a warning about a possible outbreak of a deadly disease – anthrax, which can “migrate” to the territory of the kingdom from neighboring Laos.
At least three cases of infection of local residents have already been recorded there, and the infection occurred due to their consumption of meat from a suddenly deceased cow.
The Thai province closest to Laos is Buriram, and the authorities of this region were the first to sound the alarm. The Provincial Livestock Department has issued an emergency appeal to residents to exercise maximum caution.
“The disease, which can be transmitted from animals to humans, especially when eating raw cattle and buffalo meat, required increased supervision and precautionary measures,” the ministry said in a statement.
Veterinary control at the Thai-Lao border has already been strengthened, but the main thing is that people observe at least basic rules of self–preservation. First of all, the Thai authorities urge local residents and tourists to refrain from eating raw meat and dishes based on it.
The authorities are calling for the abandonment of larba, a salad made of chopped meat with onions and herbs that is popular not only in Buriram, but throughout Thailand. But this is not the only dish of Thai cuisine based on unprocessed pork and beef. Also in the tourist areas, local chefs offer soups based on Lu Muu blood, Kuai Tieo Rya (“boat noodles”), as well as salads lyat and laab with raw meat.
It is difficult to predict whether a deadly infection will reach the provinces most popular with Russian tourists, but it does not hurt to think about how to insure yourself in case of possible infection.
“Anthrax, like COVID-19, are included in the list of particularly dangerous diseases and are included in all insurance programs,” the editorial board said TourDom.ru Director of the branch of the company “EUROINS Travel Insurance” Julia Alcheeva.
According to the expert, in case of illness, a tourist who has issued an insurance policy receives the same compensation protocol as in case of covid – this is payment for treatment and transportation.
If you buy standard insurance for a trip to Thailand for a period of 14 days for 5.1 thousand rubles, then the insurance amount will be 100 thousand euros. This fully covers outpatient or inpatient treatment in case of illness.
It is clear that it is better to follow the necessary safety rules in areas where infected people may appear – the most dangerous thing is that the first symptoms of anthrax appear about 2 weeks after infection.
And do not think that this is a deadly disease somewhere far away from us. Anthrax outbreaks periodically appear in Russia. One of them broke out exactly a year ago in Chuvashia, where two people were diagnosed with the disease. Fortunately, they were saved.
