The Urals has become the fastest growing macroregion for “velvet” travel — the growth in demand for trips to the UFA region is 79% year-on-year, i.e. almost 2 times. The Southern (by 67%) and Central (by 58%) federal districts also showed significant growth.

Among the regions, the greatest increase in popularity is observed in regions with wide opportunities for ecotourism:

  • The Republic of Adygea. The year—on-year growth in hotel and apartment bookings during the velvet season is 170%; the average cost of a night at a local hotel/apartment this year is 8,500 rubles.

  • The Republic of Crimea. An increase of 165%; the average cost of a night is 7,000 rubles.

It is obvious that more and more Russians choose holidays during the velvet season, and there are several reasons for this. Firstly, the summer heat, which often reaches 30-35 degrees, is replaced by more moderate climatic conditions. Secondly, with the end of the summer season, the number of tourists decreases significantly, and many hotels and resorts begin to reduce prices for accommodation and services.

The growing interest in locations with mountain and forest objects is also demonstrated by data on hotel and apartment bookings in various Russian cities. This is what the 10 fastest growing cities look like, where travelers want to go during the velvet season:
