From September 17 to 19, 2024, the Thai Golf Travel Mart (TGTM) 2024 exhibition was held in Bangkok with the participation of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The annual event is an effective platform for interaction between business representatives (B2B) in order to promote the kingdom as a travel destination with world-class golf resorts. Moreover, the kingdom has been hosting international competitions for many years, including the Honda LPGA Thailand, which celebrated its 17th anniversary this year.
Niti Siprae, Deputy Director General of the Tourism Department for Marketing Communications, commented on TGTM 2024: “This is a great opportunity to demonstrate to the world that Thailand is one of the best locations for golfers from all over the world. The tourism industry plays a key role in stimulating the kingdom’s economy, and golf is considered an important part of it. Prestigious tournaments are regularly held on world—class fields – guests can enjoy them at any time of the year, while at the same time getting to know the cuisine, traditions and wellness treatments.”
This year, 63 golf tourism experts participated in the exhibition, who exchanged views with entrepreneurs from this business niche, including the founders of country clubs, hotels and golf courses. The networking format helped to discuss issues relevant to the field: representatives of 31 media were invited to the event, who were shown one of the best golf courses in Thailand.
TGTM 2024 began with a Networking Golf Inspection and a golf tournament at Bangkok’s Siam Country Club, followed by a welcome dinner at Topgolf Megacity. On the second day, guests and exhibitors gathered at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel for the opening ceremony, briefing and networking sessions, which centered on a game of golf. The end of the exhibition was the “Networking Golf Tournament” at the Riverdale Golf Club.
“Thailand has long enjoyed the recognized fame of a popular golf destination in Asia. Players are attracted by good weather conditions, beautiful landscapes and convenient infrastructure. And qualified staff from the hospitality industry help to make every tour unforgettable,” said Siripakorn Cheavsamut, Deputy Director General of the Tourism Department for International Marketing in Europe, America, Africa and the Middle East, speaking at the opening ceremony about the latest marketing concept “Amazing Thailand: Your stories never end.” He also presented travel products and services needed for a perfect golf vacation.
The kingdom boasts more than 250 golf courses, among which both a beginner and a professional player will find suitable for themselves. Locations popular with travelers are more often equipped with international-class fields, while destinations, so far only gaining points in the eyes of tourists, promise a more intimate atmosphere and unforgettable impressions. Recommended clubs include Gassan Legacy in Lamphun, Santiburi in Chiang Rai, Chatrium Soi Dao in Chantaburi and Royal Creek in Udon Thani.
To promote golf among locals and visitors to the kingdom, the Tourism Authority launched the Amazing Golf in Southern Thailand campaign in partnership with the leading golf booking platform Golfdigg and clubs in Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga and Koh Samui. Within its framework, you can take advantage of special offers in local restaurants, five-star hotels and spa centers in the period from August to the end of September 2024.
Thailand’s well-established image as a destination for golf enthusiasts is backed up by numerous prestigious awards. Recent ones include IAGTO for Bangkok as the “Golf Destinations of 2024 in Southeast Asia”, World Golf Awards for Pineapple Valley Golf Club, which was recognized as the “Best Golf Hotel in Thailand 2023” and others.
