Summer holidays continue to get more expensive

Летний отдых продолжает дорожать

According to Rosstat, the average cost of an economy class flight in Russia per 1,000 km of travel in the first half of the year amounted to 7,363 rubles.

COMPARED to the first half of 2023, the cost of the flight increased by 17%. The State Duma has already become concerned about the rise in air ticket prices and announced a “serious conversation” with the Ministry of Transport for August. However, there are directly opposite statistics – according to Forbes, Russian citizens have already adapted to the increased prices and connecting routes, since in the first half of 2024 the number of trips from Russia to foreign countries increased by 23% compared to the first half of 2023.

The number of offenses has also increased (by 11% more often than last year) when moving goods and cash across the border at the capital’s airports. Employees of the Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo customs opened 7,800 administrative cases and 127 criminal ones. Most often, currency was illegally transported – euros, US dollars and UAE dirhams. Passengers also attempted to smuggle alcohol, tobacco products, medicines, jewelry, wristwatches, electronics, cosmetics and branded clothing at the capital’s airports.

One of the major domestic online hotel booking services monitored average prices for resort hotels this summer. According to the service, the highest average check for a beach holiday in Russia was recorded in Adler – 11 thousand rubles per day, in Abrau-Durso – 8,100, in Yalta – 7,600, cheaper in Gelendzhik and Sochi – 5,900 rubles. The most budget accommodation turned out to be in Crimea. In Kerch, the average cost of a night is 3,100 rubles, in Sudak – 3,500, in Feodosia – 3,800 rubles. In the Krasnodar Territory, according to another online hotel booking service, the cheapest vacation in Kuchuguri is 3900 rubles, in the village of Golubitskaya – 4300, in Yeysk – 4800, in Tuapse – 5000, in Myshako – 5600 and in Novorossiysk – 5900 rubles. In general, the average check for a day’s stay in hotels in the Krasnodar Territory this summer is 5,600 rubles. This is 22% more than last summer.

The analytical center of the National Agency for Financial Research (NAFI) has published statistics according to which the only type of recreation, the popularity of which is traditionally growing among Russians, is “the refusal to travel in favor of spending time at home.” “The share of those who prefer to spend their holidays at home has increased by 3 percentage points over the past 12 months – from 42 to 45%. But all other types of “reset” have become less desirable in the eyes of Russians,” says NAFI. According to their data, 47% of Russians want to spend their holidays on the beach, 45% – at home, and 42% – in the country. With the caveat that the final value may exceed 100%, since respondents could choose more than one option.

The specialized publication Vestnik ATOR (ATOR – the Association of Tour Operators of Russia) interviewed experts in the tourism industry, and they, of course, expressed some doubts about the correctness of the NAFI formulations used. In their opinion, the point is not only and not so much that Russians “do not want to rest.” It’s just that travel is becoming more expensive, and the burden on infrastructure is increasing. And this is what encourages tourists to stay at home. And not at all a lack of curiosity and not a pure “desire to spend time at home.”

From shelf to shelf

Russian Railways was surprised last week, in the good sense of the word, with two innovations. Firstly, the railwaymen have launched a new option in the booking system, which will allow passengers, in case of lack of seats for the entire route, to collect empty shelves in a single ticket on different sections of the track and transfer along the course of the train. So far, the option is available on four routes – from Moscow to Kislovodsk, Adler, Anapa and Novorossiysk. The found options will be marked with a special warning “Transfer inside the train”. When making such a trip, the passenger will receive a separate ticket for each segment of the route. After switching to a new carriage, a new registration with the conductor will be required.

Secondly, now it is possible to see the interior of the carriage before buying a ticket. So far, the new option is valid only on some routes, but in the near future the carrier wants to add snapshots to all existing trains.

Emergency

Almost 40 children and one adult were poisoned at the Magistral sanatorium in Salair, Kemerovo region.

The children’s camp belongs to the West Siberian Railway, it was closed, and they promise to return the money for the vouchers. “On Monday, July 22, in accordance with the order of Rospotrebnadzor, the activities of the children’s camp were suspended for additional anti-epidemic measures. It will be mandatory to refund money to parents for vouchers,” the press service of the ZZHD explained. In June, this camp was already closed when 10 children were poisoned there. A month has passed, and the situation has not only repeated itself, but also worsened.

Hail showers and tornadoes covered Sochi and Sirius on July 23 and 24.

Swimming on the beaches was prohibited – rescuers warned vacationers through loudspeakers about the prohibition of swimming and did not allow vacationers to the water. Roads were flooded in some places, and in Matsesta the water covered the bridge.

Cheesecake for 5250

One of the food delivery services to trains and planes found out what the most expensive dish is ordered by train passengers – it turned out to be a San Sebastian cheesecake for 5,250 rubles. A cake weighing 1.9 kilograms can be ordered by passengers traveling by train through Moscow. Dessert is prepared by a Moscow restaurant. In second place was an assortment of scallops (2,250 rubles) from a Simferopol restaurant. For this money, the traveler will receive a scallop with crab, a scallop with truffle, a scallop with door blue cheese and a scallop with saffron oil. The third line of the rating went to a dish from a Nizhny Novgorod restaurant. For 1,500 rubles, travelers can enjoy a light salad with warm eel, soft avocado, lemon mousse and ripe plum jam.

The most inexpensive dish available to railway travelers turned out to be pancakes with jam for 80 rubles. In second place in terms of cheapness are naval pasta for 110 rubles, in third place is chicken soup with herbs for 125 rubles. The average check for lunch for 2-3 people on the train for Russians is 1817 rubles. A year earlier, this figure was 1,510 rubles. Thus, the cost of lunch has increased by 20% over the year.

Hassle in Antalya

Problems with the postponement of flights continue in the Anatolian port – Turkish air traffic controllers announced the next round of the “Italian” strike “work without initiative”. “By decision of the board of our trade union, as part of the implementation of our legal requirements, it was decided to work without initiative in the period from July 25 to August 5,” the HTK–SEN industry trade union said in a statement. The trade union accused the Turkish authorities of ignoring their demands. This has a negative impact on the work of the entire aviation industry.

According to Turkish media, at the last meeting of the ruling party, the Turkish tourism minister said that the actions carried out by air traffic controllers, as a result of which about 30 foreign flights are delayed per day, have a negative impact on the tourism industry and bring financial losses. The most problems were noted at Antalya International Airport. Turkish President Recep Erdogan demanded “to immediately resolve the issue, do everything necessary and bring the perpetrators to justice.” The head of the Ministry of Transport was instructed to resolve the situation.

Visa News

The new entry system to Israel – ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) – will be fully operational only from next year.

The launch was postponed at the request of the airlines. They need more time to establish technological processes. As a result, ETA is now functioning in a test format, but it will become mandatory for foreigners, including Russians, from January 1, 2025. The cost of an electronic permit in the future will be 25 shekels (approximately 600 rubles). per person. To apply for an ETA, Russians need a foreign passport, valid debit/credit card details, an email address and some other personal data (official position, flight details or the address where the traveler plans to stay). Consideration of the application can take up to 72 hours.

Poland has supported the Czech Republic’s initiative to ban Russian citizens holding non-biometric passports from staying in the EU, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said. Thus, Russians with five-year passports will be banned from entering Poland.

Visa experts recommend that tourists applying for visas to China, before submitting documents, finally determine the point of entry into the country. According to representatives of visa agencies, you only need to enter the one you will use in the online questionnaire. In case of a discrepancy, foreigners can be deployed at the border. There have already been precedents, since border guards have access to the data that the tourist initially claimed.
